shape and should contact the leaders previous to the trip. The approach will be via Canyon del Diablo on the east side of the range. Roads are poor, so cars should have good clearance. This is the best the section has to offer!

Dec. 14-15: SPIRIT MTN. Arky Erb and Neko Colevins wilt lead this first-scheduled trip up this class 3 peak near the Colorado River. Another possibility for our overgrowing qualifying list.

The Masterkey, publication of the Southwest Museum, in the latest issue tells some interesting stories of Indian oratory. For an example: The leader of the Paiutes said that our enemies (the white man) are like the sands in the beds of our rivers; when taken away they only give place for more to come and settle. This was said in 1861; to a certain degree it is appropriate today.

A History of Lower California, the extensive history book mentioned in the Last Desert Trading Post, is available at Dawsons' Bookshop in Los Angeles.

Potosi means loaded! (also a desert peak in the Spring Range, Nevada) San Luis Potosi in Mexico took its name from a very high yielding South American mining region. To this day in Mexico you will find the word "Potosi" is applied to anything symbolic of great wealth, "Es un Potosi" you hear; it might be a very productive business or, just a loaded widow! --Harry Melts
