Sandra Johnson. Thru-Hiker on
the John Muir Trail in 1990, the Pacific Crest Trail in 1991 and the
Appalachian Trail in 1992, is organizing a WOMEN'S TRAIL TEAM. The team will be
hiking the entire Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada, 2638 miles,
collecting Trail data on a GPS receiver for a #D profile with mileage and
elevation at each way point, in a portable computer, to publish a new trail
guide. The team will also be working with the Forest Service, the Park Service
and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to document, on computer, the
maintenance of the Pacific Crest Trail. Documenting the Trail Function
Inventories and Trail Maintenance Surveys on computer will make all trail
information readily accessible to the Forest and Park Services, and the BLM. It
will be available instantly so a trail crew can be directed to a section of the
trail most in need of maintenance. The Forest and Park Services are seeking the
aid of the Sierra Club, equestrian groups, Boy and Girl Scout groups, and any
other volunteer organization that wants to offer their members time to maintain
a section of the trail. Sandra is looking for WOMEN who are professional
photographers, computer specialists and writers to become Trail Team Members.
The team is a volunteer organization whose expenses are covered by Grant
money. Contact Sandra Johnson: |
