of east side below the pass. The road is also impassable because of deep snow, in winter months (4WD high clearance). Road goes to the crest of the Grapevine Range and vehicle travel is not allowed into the canyon on the western side.

31. Racetrack Road
26 miles of loose gravel, a few miles of washboards, some protruding boulders. Moderate and long uphill grade (2400' in 9 miles). Pickups with campers, VWs and vans OK. Sedans, campers and motor homes do negotiate this road occasionally, but the operator should be an experienced dirt road driver. Smooth road conditions at the beginning of this road near Ubehebe Crater may give some drivers a false sense of security. Parts of road are very rough and washboard. 2WD high clearance. Graded in '92.

32. Rhodes Spring and Rhodes Wash
From the turnoff on Rt. 2, go about 100 yards and bear left (north). You proceed over a rocky and bumpy road to Rhodes Spring. If you were to go straight ahead rather than take the turn to the left, you would be proceeding in a N.E. direction up Rhodes Wash. Rhodes Wash gets sandy in places. High clearance or 4x4 vehicles recommended.

33. Sand Dunes Road
Access is via CA190, 1.1 miles west of CA19O/Rt. 5 junction, or via Rt. 5, 3 miles north of Rt. 5/CA19O junction. Surface is washboard texture with some loose sand. Passable to 2WD vehicles. No camping. Designated day use area. Very rough (washboardy) at this time. Needs grading.

34. Saratoga Springs Road
The road is occasionally graded from Hwy 127 to the Saratoga Springs turn-off. The Saratoga Springs road itself is in fairly good shape with a couple of ditches and washes to go through. The washes are dirt and compacted. Most 2WD trucks can make it to the Springs with no problem. Road is blockaded where it crosses Amargosa River due. to 2 ft. drop off; detour to the left.

35. Scotty's Canyon
Road rarely traveled and washed out frequently. 4x4 recommended. Access limited to approximately one mile.

36. Skidoo
Road graded annually to Skidoo Town site. After first 3.5 miles, grade increases for about a mile. In this one mile stretch, boulders protrude in the road surface and caution is necessary for sedans to negotiate without risking undercarriage damage. After the climb, the road narrows and has been cut out of the mountain side, precipitous on one side with occasional rocks in the road. Beyond the town site, the roads are not maintained. Road subject to snow and mud conditions during wet period. There are no visible remains of the town of Skidoo. Passable to passenger sedans with caution. Watch for other vehicles on blind curves.

37. Strozzi Ranch
Has trash cans and pit toilets. Pick-up trucks and other high clearance vehicles OK. Rough in spots with dips from minor washing. Short sections of soft sand in places. Snow closures during winter months, and lots of mud at lower elevations. 4WD high clearance vehicles.
