you get to the river crossing, and sand at the river crossing. From there south to the Owls Hole Spring Road it is rough road with a periodic ditch with rougher sections. The road is occasionally graded from the Owls Holt Spring Junction Road to Hwy 127. 4WD high clearance is recommended. There are many sandy areas. Do not drive this road if there is any sign of heavy rainfall.

16. Hidden Valley
Road through Hidden Valley is very washboard. Deep dust in places. It is also subject to flooding and standing water after a rain storm. Climbing out of the south end of Hidden Valley the road is steep and rough for approximately 1/4 mile. The road between Ulida Flat and Goldbelt has several protruding boulders, potholes and some dips. Pick-ups without campers, VWs and vans OK. On very rare occasions sedans or campers can negotiate this road. Not recommended for these vehicles unless the operator is an extremely experienced dirt road driver and has traveled these roads previously. Road was graded this last summer.

17. Hole in the Wall
Look for road on Hwy 190, mile marker 117 near elevation sign on other side of road. Very difficult to spot entrance to this road. The first .7 miles of the road in the wash is washed out. There will be a few vehicle tracks from other vehicles going in that people can probably follow if they look for them. Generally for the first section, it will be easier if people stay on the left side of the wash. After the first .7 miles, the road will be visible and will not be much of a problem in following it. The road is in a rough condition, so it will be slow going and rough. 4WD vehicles recommended due to the loose gravel of the road. Road ends in the wash of the north fork of the Red Amphitheater. 2 miles beyond the Hole in the Wall is a road leading down to an abandoned rock quarry. It can be difficult to turn around at the end of the road and long wheel base vehicles are not recommended at the end of the rock quarry road.

18. Hunter Mountain
This road is often impassable in winter, November through March, due to ice and snow. Carry chains. 4x4 and high clearance only recommended. (10/92 passable with high clearance.)

19. Ibex Hills
From Hwy 127 at the microwave station to the junction leading to Saratoga Springs is fine for most 2WD vehicles (approximately 2 miles). The road leading to the Ibex Spring and camp requires 4x4 due to one steep climb out of a wash. Once at the mining camp area, do not explore around in your vehicle. Park and walk. Beyond the junction leading southwest (to Saratoga Spring and Harry Wade road) are several areas of deep drifting sand. 2WD vehicles get stuck here frequently! 4x4 is required for travel on this route due to the sand.

20. Indian Pass and Lee's Camp
OK for 4WD high clearance coming from the east side. If coming from Echo Canyon see notes under Echo Canyon.

21. Johnson Canyon
From the valley floor proceeding up the hill at first you are in a wash that is compacted somewhat. Then as you travel on the alluvial fan the road is bumpy. Then as you drop into the canyon it is a wash and traction is hard to get in 2WD vehicles. It is rough and 4x4 is recommended.
