The Desert Peaks Section
is in need of NEW Section and Outings Leaders. You newer members, look around
you. Many outings leaders have been serving for 10 or even 20 years and more.
They love to do it but their numbers are slowly getting fewer and fewer. I
would like you newer DPS members, those of you who have enjoyed DPS hikes for a
couple of seasons and who like the challenge of the list, the beauty of our
desert and the camaraderie of good friends, I would like you to consider
becoming an outings leader and help build and maintain the Section that gives
you this enjoyment. Sign up for the Leadership Training Course at Griffith Park
on Saturday April 13! Send a sase to Carol Breyde (address in Schedule) NOW for
info and application. The next Training Session will be held in October. If you
can't serve as a leader then volunteer to serve in one of the DPS Management
Committee positions soon to become available. And at the very least, be one of
the 20 or 30% of our 260 members who vote in this month's election. Help the
DPS survive without its becoming a Geriatric Section. -- RON |

Mary,
Last night I was reading through the
Scoops du Jour section in the Dec/Jan 1991 issue of the DPS Sage. In it was an
edited version of the writeup I supplied about a trip last November to Mt. Mera
in Nepal. The edited article left out the names of the other DPS'ers (Richard
Carey, Bill Stevens, Ken Olson and Fred Bright) who also climbed Mera as well
as a sentence crediting Richard Carey for organization of this trip; omissions
that greatly embarrassed me. The climb of Mera was a team effort and my
participation in it was as a team player, nothing more. I decided to
immediately get on the phone to each of them to apologize for the oversight and
promise that I would write a letter to rectify the situation in the next issue
of the Sage. The great deal of hard work and dedication required in achieving
this high summit demands the mention of each participant by name.
Attached for your review is a copy of the original article I submitted to the
Sage. Please see that these four gentlemen (especially Richard Carey for his
fine leadership in organizing this climb) get their just mention; they did a
hell of a job and really deserve the recognition of their peers.
Thanks in advance for your resolution of this matter. Regards,
Dave Jurasevich |
