banquet should prove to be an memorable occasion. May 1st will find us at beautiful Lawry's California Center for the second year. We've tried very hard to keep the price down and the section is subsidizing some of the expense of each ticket. Our program should be a true delight with the inspiring photography of Jalien Tully and Noelta Ballenger with their show of "Sea of Sand, Land of Water" - a slide odyssey of Namibia in southwestern Africa. This will be a picture showcase of a beautiful and unique desert In Namibia where the desert meets the sea. Not to be missed!
This banquet Is also a celebration of our 50th year together as DPS'ers. We hope to have Interesting historical exhibits as well as a short presentation of our history. We urge all of our long standing DPS members to attend the banquet. Even if you are no longer a member - we Invite you to attend and relive old and new adventures with us.
The Desert Photo Contest was very popular last year. This year we are asking our membership to again send in their photos. Last year was fun as we had some very serious photography as well as pictures that were just for fun. We will have awards for the best black and white prints and the best color prints.
But best and most fun of all there will be a 50th Anniversary display of old time prints, with prizes for the best people print and oldest picture.
We are making a special request for all of our long standing DPS'ers to help us make this 50th anniversary exhibit really special by sending in their favorite photos. There is no fancy mounting required and all photos will be returned to The sender/lender. It would also be great to include a brief description of the photo and the names of the people in the picture and or peak, If you know them and the year the picture was taken.
Send all photo entries, new and old to Patty Kline as soon as possible. Don't forget to attach your name and address to the print so we know where to return it after the banquet. Help us make the Photo Contest and our 50th Anniversary Photo Exhibit a success, SEND IN YOUR PHOTOS TODAY!
We look forward to seeing you all at the banquet!

P.S. Don't forget, if you haven't already renewed your membership please send in your check today!

Maybe the sun never sets on the British Empire, but it sure sets on us out here in the desert.
It sets once a day, as regular as can be. And it sets in a manner, and with a flair and a splendor, that makes you feel sorry for people with just ordinary sunsets.
and ... It is so quiet out here just at dawn. I don't know what, but something awakens us each dawn-the silence, or the gentleness, or something. And we get up, and watch the light come softly over the mountains, and it is the most perfect hour of the day.
and ... When you sit out here in the silent vastness of the desert, so remote from turmoil, you feel that the ghostly rustling of war can be only something that you dreamed once in a nightmare. 4/15/41 - from
