| The first annual Argus Peak climb and BBQ was held in April, 1978 with 22 participants. Sunday, those who were able, climbed Tucki. Barbara Reber finished the Vagmarken desert list on a DPS exploratory of Ophir Mtn. We also climbed Silver Mtn & Malpais Mesa. I led an exploratory of Salsberry Pk and later while driving west toward Epaulet Pk from the Greenwater Valley Road, Three 4WDs; Dick Banner's, Wes Shelberg's, & Elliot Snyders, and my VW became mired to the axles in mud. Two cars weren't pulled out until the next morning. New members included Greg Vernon, Geoff Godfrey (the first nude desert rat. More on that later), Stan Icen, Bill & Rita Gray. | ||

| Gordon MacLeod led 13 in April of 1973 up heavy snow in Phinney Cyn to the summits of Palmer & Wahguyhe. John Linden successfully led 27 up Sombrero & Jacumba and later had a bash in the old hotel in Jacumba. A 67 mile section of Interstate 40 between Barstow & Needles was opened in April, taking traffic away from the old Hwy 66. Delores Holladay, Earl Kesler, Dave Gladstone & Alice Hawkins joined the DPS. Maureen Cates, Roy Ward, Ed Rose & Lois Fracisco earned emblems. | ||

| Bud Bingham led 11 on a 4th class exploratory of Gold Dome, high point of the Needles Pinnacles in 1963. Bob Greenawalt led a shuttle trip with 18 participants from Panamint City, up to Sentinel Pk and down Johnson Cyn past Hungry Bill's Ranch. Roger Mitchell, DPS rock-hound, reported on his exploratory in the area of Wingate Wash and Butte Valley. John Robinson led his annual Easter week exploratory in the San Pedro Martirs. New members included Frank Riseley, Eric Nelson, Bernie & Lou Petitjean, Eric Schumacher & Ken Ferrell. New emblem holders included Abe Siemens, Tom Limp, Neko Colevins & Arkel Erb. | ||
