Mike turned the meeting back to Vi Grasso who introduced the new DPS Chair; Mary Sue Miller and provided her with the trappings of the office - a velvet crown and gavel.

Mary Sue then introduced her new management committee consisting of:

Harry Brumner - Vice Chair/Outings/Mountaineering Chair
Chuck Stein - Secretary and Treasurer
Larry Machleder - Programs
Art Blauvelt - Council Representative
Barbara Reber - Desert Sage editor and Conservation
Jim Murphy - Mountaineering Committee
Bill Bradley - Mountaineering Committee

Mary Sue Miller presented Vi Grasso with a past president pin and turned the meeting back to Vi, who introduced the banquet speaker, Ruth B. Simpson naturalist, archeologist and geologist for the San Bernardino County Museum. She presented an outstanding slide show on the Mojave River Drainage area. The pictures showed the "digs" revealing the oldest confirmed Western Hemisphere civilization, right here in our backyard. The dig, known as the Calico Site, is near the town of Manix, site of prehistoric Manix lake bed, between the route 15 and route 40 freeways, a short distance from Barstow.
