Mary Sue Miller presented Vi Grasso with a past president pin and turned the meeting back to Vi, who introduced the banquet speaker, Ruth B. Simpson naturalist, archeologist and geologist for the San Bernardino County Museum. She presented an outstanding slide show on the Mojave River Drainage area. The pictures showed the "digs" revealing the oldest confirmed Western Hemisphere civilization, right here in our backyard. The dig, known as the Calico Site, is near the town of Manix, site of prehistoric Manix lake bed, between the route 15 and route 40 freeways, a short distance from Barstow.
