Desert Peaks Section
Emblems & Awards
Emblem status is awarded to DPS members who have been members for one year and have climbed 15 of the 95 peaks on our Desert Peaks list, including five of the seven emblem peaks. Members should apply in writing to the Secretary listing the peaks climbed and the dates of ascent.
First List Completion status is awarded to DPS members who have been members for one year and have climbed the peaks on the current Desert Peaks list. Members should apply in writing to the Secretary listing the peaks climbed and the dates of ascent.
Second List Completion status is awarded to DPS members who have been members for one year and have climbed the peaks on the current Desert Peaks list two times.
Third and subsequent List Completions status is awarded to DPS members who have been members for one year and have climbed the peaks on the current Desert Peaks list three times.
The “Desert Explorer Emblem, 40 Peaks Award” will be awarded to DPS members who have climbed 40 peaks on our Desert Peaks list by more than one route. The “Desert Explorer Emblem, 20 Peaks Award” will be awarded to DPS members who have climbed 20 peaks on our Desert Peaks list by more than one route. To qualify as a different route, the second route must differ from the first route for a significant portion (at least 50%) of the route. Members should apply in writing to the Secretary listing the peaks climbed, routes used, and the dates of ascent.
The “MacLeod & Lilley Desert Peaks Emblem” will be awarded to DPS members who has climbed 50 peaks in the desert regions of California, Utah, Nevada and Arizona that are on MacLeod & Lilley’s list of desert peaks ascents (but are not on the DPS, HPS, San Diego or Great Basin peaks lists). MacLeod & Lilley’s list of desert peaks ascents are available on the DPS website (and by request to desertpeaksection@gmail.com). Members should apply in writing to the Secretary listing the peaks climbed and the dates of ascent.
Leader Emblem is awarded to a regular member of the Section who is a qualified Angeles Chapter leader and has led or co-led 50 peaks on the Desert Peaks list.
Awards are given for service, mountaineering accomplishments and lifetime achievements.
