DPS Newsletter

FROM THE RETIRING CHAIRMAN- Abe Siemens
This issue of the Newsletter is the last for the 67-68 season. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Vice Chairman John Thornton, our outing schedule for the past year was an outstanding one. The trip leaders, without whom we would have no trips, perform an indispensable task. We should all take special pains to communicate our appreciation to them more frequently.
We all owe a specially vote of thanks to our ever faithful editor and cartographer of our DPS Newsletter. The familiar ROG "no scale" maps have become a welcome addition to DPS literature. I hope to see all of you next season, when you will be ably served by your new Management Committee.

NEW MEMBERS-
The Secretary reports the following persons have submitted their climbing lists and have been admitted to our ranks:

Alice Lewis (How we like female DPSers!)
Jim Jenkins
Horace Ory see Roster

We welcome you all
into our Section,
hope to meet you
soon.

NEW EMBLEM HOLDERS-
Same Secretary reports that more persons have joined the ranks of Emblem Peakers-the goal every devout DPSer dreams of.
Congratulations to the entire body! Keep Climbing!

John Castel
Arnold Yukelson
Mike Inskeep (John's young son)
Horace Ory (instant badge)
Wally Henry
Claude Walker
Bernie & Lu Petitjean

Special merit goes to the stick-to-it-iveness of Claude Walker. He has been working on his Emblem by climbing with us for 14 years!!

HAVE YOU HEARD OR SEEN?
Wally Henry and Beth Pferdner were married in late February. Our DPS member got together with a this-side-of-the-mountain Local Hikes Sierra Clubber. They are now living in Palmdale, Wally's haunts. Best Wishes to both of your.

The Akawie family had a fine group picture in the Times very recently. It featured a story of the five of them and how they backpack together. The scene shows the lineup ready for the trail, Keltys all packed. A nice tribute to an active family.
