ANNUAL BANQUET REPORT--- Ben Romero
One of the more informative programs seen by DPS fans this year took place and highlighted this Annual Banquet on April 18 at Rudi's Italian Inn in town. The evening festivities began with a Happy Hour and was followed by a delicious steak dinner.
The attendance was disappointingly small, however the group was treated to a fine presentation by Dr Douglas Donaldson, Prof of Zoology at L A State College. "The DESERT As an Ecological System" was his subject, themed by "What is a desert? This is harder to describe than to define."
The, speaker pointed out many fascinating things to be observed in the desert, and the knowledge gained will certainly make for even more enjoyable future trips. It is easily seen that merely reaching a desert peak summit without taking time out to enjoy the desert itself is a sure way of short-changing only ourselves.

SOME DESERT NEWS---
An appropriation of almost one half million dollars for state parks in Riverside County, three being in the desert sector, is included in the tentative budget submitted to the Legislature by Gov. Reagan.
