DPS Newsletter
From the CHAIRMAN- Gene Gail
At the DPS Business Meeting March 24 we will vote on a By-Laws Amendment to raise Big Picacho to Emblem status. It will not be an additional requirement for the Emblem, only an alternate to one of the other Emblem Peaks.
I personally feel this to be a wise change as it will encourage more of our members to make this spectacular climb. Many who have climbed it in the past feel it worthy of an additional Emblem all by itself as it does represent quite an achievement. But aside from its difficulty, the beauty of Diablo Canyon, the summit itself, and the breath-taking panoramic views from the top are unsurpassed by any other of our listed peaks.
For those of us who have yet to visit our most spectacular Desert Peek, start getting in shape, as it will be led by our Section the coming Thanksgiving Holiday. Don't say you haven't had enough warning!

Social event for MARCH
Wed. Mar 3 will be our regular monthly Social Mtg. This will be the last one to take place at Echo Park Playground Clubhouse. We will be in next season at another more-secluded location, Silver Lake Playground Clubhouse.
This meeting will be a slide show with everyone participating. See SC current sked for complete details.

ANNUAL DPS BANQUET
Save Mar 31 for another Rudi's Italian Inn Banquet. This year will be entertained by Cal Tech Professor Jim Bonner (also a DPS Member of long standing) with his outstanding program "A WALK THROUGH NEPAL". Expect to receive a flyer about this event at a later date.

DPS Sponsored TELESCOPE PEAK hike at DEATH VALLEY ENCAMPMENT
Word has been received that preliminary approval has been given for the project. The final word will come at a forthcoming Death Valley '49ers Director's Meeting. They seem happy with the suggestion.
