In order to function more effectively, the DPS needs more members. Lots of new people join the Sierra Club but are not given enough encouragement to learn about our Section's activities. In going over the old files, I find that in the past new members were given personal letters from our Section, telling them of the aims and purposes and an invitation to join us on an outing. I feel this plan should be re-instituted. Also certificates of membership were issued. It would also seem that more publicity is necessary. Formerly many trips were recorded not only in our Section's scrapbook but also in Desert Magazine. Why can't we get publicity in the Times' Sunday sections? I think they would accept it. Westways has a monthly column listing local outdoor events. We should be in there. Ours is a unique group end can be proud of its progress. Let's strive for more members!
