Three business
meetings are planned for the Fall schedule. On October 18 will be a business
meeting at club headquarters to vote on the new By-Laws. There will be a
meeting in November, possibly at Harwood, to count the ballots for the 1962
officers. Another meeting will probably be scheduled in January. Other possible trips for the Fall schedule were suggested at the June 7th meeting. They include Whipple Mtn., Spectre Pk., Pinnicate Pk, Kingston & Potosi Pks., and the greatest of them all, Cerro de La Encantada if qualified leaders are available.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS OF INTEREST compiled from various & sundry sources Newest member of the D.P.S. is Lew Twersky, 415 Marine St., Santa Monica. Bob Bear has been appointed the DPS Conservation Committee Chairman. Origin of the name POTOSI: This word is a Quecuma word of Inca origin meaning "outstanding wealth". CERRO DE LA ENCANTADA (Peak of the Enchanted Woman) is now used officially by the DPS as the name for the highest point in Baja California. This name is used on all Mexican maps and supercedes EL PICACHO DEL DIABLO (strictly a Sierra Club colloquialism) and LA PROVIDENCIA. |
