7 t h The annual meeting of the Desert Peaks Section will be held at 8:30 P.M. Friday, December 7 at Club Headquarters in the Philharmonic building, Let's try to turn out for this one meeting of the year. Bring along the names of any new mountains you think should be included in the "official list". Your chairman has certainly not been very successful in putting out newsletters this year, so we'll have to apply the quarters which were sent in on next year's newsletters. Since this is the first letters since the request for quarters, you did not miss any issues! The lack of newsletters is, however, no indication of lack of section activity. Bob Bear who planned the scheduled D.P.S. trips this past year did an excellent job planning old and new trips which were well attended and greatly enjoyed. These scheduled trips as well as some outlaw trips have been admirably reported in the Southern Sierran. Bob has now lined up four fine trips for the spring schedule - namely: |

During the past 10 or so years, the Desert Peaks Section in its exploratory type of trips has tagged names on to peaks and canyons, etc. which were previously unnamed. It is about time that we start a collection of these names and offer them to the Geological Survey for inclusion on maps. It is very difficult to speak of peaks and canyons if they are nameless, and this seems to be the state in a lot of our desert ranges. Please think of all the names that the Section has pinned on desert mountain features, and bring a list of them to the Dec, 7 meeting. Last January, the Board of Directors of the Sierra Club approved the Desert Peaks Section's recommendation for a White Mountain wild or wilderness area. The Sierra Club then recommended the wild or wilderness area to the Forest Service. As yet the Forest Service has taken no action. We must watch this closely during the coming year. A WEDDING . . .
