enthusiastic people arrived at the starting point on Palms to Pines highway at 11 & clock Friday night. Saturday morning they took off at 7:00 after an early breakfast and warm-up at Harry Silver's service station. By 9:30 they reached Cactus Springs and had lunch at Martinez Pass before ascending the peak. Returning to their packs they finished 18 miles by 5:00 and camped on a high rolling plateau between the pass and the head of the canyon where the descent began the next morning. Sunday the long hike followed down ridges, down dry waterfalls some of which involved rope work and a lengthy sandy stretch into Coachella Valley. They met their bus at 5:00 on schedule and celebrated their return at the guasti inn with big Italian dinner. The weather was cool but very sunny and easy on the water supply. Everybody did very well in spite of 35-mile hike.

How many of you remember that 1954 is THE year? For what? For the 3rd TRIENNIAL BANQUET of the DPS!! Margie Henderson and committee will soon send out complete details as to time and place.

  Sincerely,

Willard
