COUNCIL REPORT by Julie Rush, Council
Rep Here is a summary of the Angeles Chapter Council meeting of
September 26, 1994:
1. "Earth Share" Chapter coordinator, Kevin Brown,
was present to explain this workplace giving campaign. Look at it a~ a United
Way for environmental groups whereby your work organization can be included to
offer payroll deduction pledges which may go to supporting 86 various
organizations, or you may contribute to just one, like the Sierra Club
Foundation. Because over 83% of every dollar goes directly to these
environmental organizations, it's $ well spent. Contact our Chapter coordinator
to see how your company can set up this program.
2. The Southern
Sierran Editorial Advisory Committee wants to become more outings oriented. It
asks Groups, Sections, etc. to submit articles w/pictures about what they do or
how they do it. We should send one to Dave Bybee. Who wants to pen it?
3. Concerning missing peak registers: A resolution was passed by the
Council advising EX Corn to recommend to National that it consider establishing
a national outings policy which recognizes, protects, and retains peak
registers atop officially listed and climbed summits of the Club's entities.
(We'll see where this goes.)
4. The Griffith Park Committee is seeking
Section status.
5. A joint Ex Corn & Council meeting is scheduled
for Thursday, October 20th to facilitate an understanding and dialogue between
Chapter entities.
6. Council Bylaws Committee members are Julie Rush
and Dave Bybee. |
CLIMBING TRIPS RETURN by Greg
Roach, Outings Chair Signal Peak by the Palm Canyon route is
scheduled to be led Saturday, March 11, 1995. This trip marks the return of
scheduled 4th class peak climbing to the DPS under our new insurance policy.
Castle Dome, a nearby fun 3rd class peak, is scheduled for the next day Sunday,
March 12, 1995
Signal Peak by the Palm Canyon route is one of the
better climbs on the "List". Climbers on this route ascend dry waterfalls in a
scenic rocky canyon to reach the summit. The steep cliffs of Palm Canyon are
home to native palm tree groves. Look for them high up in small side canyons.
Those who climb Signal Peak by this route will see why it is worthy of emblem
status. |
