SAGE REMEMBRANCES #7
By Bill T Russell, DPS Archivist/Historian, 1/93

DPS ARCHIVES

The DPS archives comprise the permanent records of the Section. These records serve management committees and are the base for historical studies and papers of interest to the members. The current officers generate and collect documents and at the end of the DPS year they are given to the archivist who binds the important ones into permanent files. Until 1989, the Secretary had custody of the archives. Some Secretaries took the time to winnow the material and to place documents in bound files, some accumulated loose papers and some left no records at all. There are essentially no records for the functions of treasurer, merchandise sales or conservation but we intend to create files as material is obtained.
A very important part of the archives is the complete set of THE DESERT SAGE The collection had a 10 year gap with no issues from 1976 thru 1987, but in 1989, John Hellman donated his complete set of SAGES to the DPS which filled that hole. In addition, various individual issues were missing and Ron Jones supplied copies made from his personal complete file.
Physically, the documents are bound into ACCO hard cover binders. The SAGES are in four volumes that are held in a "CRATE-A-FILE. The rest of the documents are held in pendaflex folders in two new 10" plastic file boxes with hinged covers. The recent historical papers labeled Sage Remembrances are also available as computer floppy disks as are the membership records that are maintained by Ron Bartell and Christine Mitchell. The files are:
