Special Note...

Randall Henderson, founder of Desert Magazine, and former DPSer, wrote a series of articles on the PALM CANYONS OF BAJA CALIFORNIA in 1946-47. La Siesta Press published them, together with material on Henderson in 1971, just after his death. They have been out of print for years.
Walt Wheelock owns but a single copy, and still receives queries as to the possibility of obtaining copies. Walt has decided to xerox complete sets later in this year, but only enough to fill requests. If you would like a set it will be $5.00 plus $1.00 shipping. He'll run them off in the mid-summer, so if you wish a copy send him the $6.00 right away. Walt Wheelock, 727 Ruberta Ave., Glendale, 91201, (818) 244-9305.

Died: Georgie White Clark; Colorado River Guide

Georgie White Clark, 81, among the first river guides to offer trips down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Mrs. Clark, who first swam the river with a friend through an obstacle of logs, rocks and whirlpools in 1945, designed the stable "G-Rig" in which three bridge pontoons were lashed together, forming a platform on which entire families could float down the rushing river in relative safety. When she sold her Georgie's Royal River Rats earlier this year, she had been host, cook, guide and navigator to thousands of people. She has hiked with the DPS and presented programs at monthly meetings.
Mail BagWE GET LETTERS ! ! ! Hello Ron, I continue to devour the Sage and appreciate the effort you put in each issue.
I was amazed at Dale V's negative comments at the Desert Bill hearings which were in the May issue. I certainly respect his accomplishments as a SC leader and as a mountaineer, but I think he has a (helluva) lotta audacity to state that his opinion represents the majority of folks in DPS. He certainly doesn't represent me! The reply of Vicky, which you printed also, fully represents my sentiments. The Desert Bill won't "lock up" the Desert to any true peak-bagger who is worth his salt! It's a big desert-and DPS has room for diversity of pinion-but let's be careful about making generalizations.
Best regards to you and Leora, Gail Hanna
