SAGE REMEMBRANCES By Bill T Russell, DPS Archivist/Historian EMBLEMEES 6/27/92

A list of DPS emblem holders was published in SAGE 1 39 (7/77) of all the holders to that date. Since then, most of the new emblemees have been listed in the SAGE as they occur. I undertook to review the primary sources, which are rather poor for some early periods, and to enter the data into my computer. The complete current list by both sequence number and by alphabet is given here. Essentially all of the changes that I made were in the sequencing of the first 50 or so people for the period from the founding of the DPS to 1953. Initially there were seven peaks on the list and membership was earned by climbing all of them. Therefore the first twelve people were emblemees and list finishers when they became members. Some emblemees, mostly women, have had more than one last name and some men, including myself, use two different first names. Because of this, some people were listed twice and/or there is some question as to which of the names to use in the listing. The computer data includes the day of the climb, the name of the peak and the SAGE number that has the announcement. These are not given here because of space limitations.
