ANGELES CHAPTER COUNCIL REPORT

I attended the meetings of February 24, March 23, and April 27. These meetings were all since our last Sage issue.

Joe Fontaine, a candidate for the National Board of Directors, who has since been elected, had a statement about climbing insurance at the February meeting. He said that even though he got his start partially in technical mountaineering in the Sierra Club and loved it, he felt that insurance issue was basically dead. Too bad.

Also in February, there was a discussion on how to cut our Angeles Chapter budget. It was felt by the Executive Committee that the Southern Sierran and Schedule should be trimmed. There were many alternatives offered for the Schedule. Some people in the Council felt our Angeles Chapter members should pay to receive the Schedule. No action has been taken as of yet on the Schedule, but the Southern Sierran has been cut from l6 pages to 12 pages.

At the March meeting, Greg Solkovits defended the charges against him for omitting articles and announcements in the Southern Sierran. Greg is our Editor.

The following was brought up in all three Council meetings. The Executive Committee is thinking of moving the Sierra Club Headquarters to a building with more security. That would please me greatly. However it is hard to find a really safe place to meet that is centrally located and free from potentially heavy outbreaks of crime and disorder or worse.

Respectfully submitted,
Patty Kline
