"Life
adapts to the dry lands; but not all life, only those specimens that know to
burrow in the ground or hide in scrubs from the burning sun; even the desert
tortoise would roast if there was no place to go. Man must take shelter, too,
as everyone knows, and should he choose his home in the desolate terrain where
summer's heat often exceeds 120 degrees, he does so with a purpose in mind."
