Dear Ron,
I
have just finished reading the Sept, 1991 - #215 issue of "THE DESERT SAGE".
And I wish to extend commendations for that particular issue. It was
outstanding. Why? Well, maybe it was because of the thoughtful attention given
to the club's effort to secure protection for a portion of the California
desert. Or perhaps it was the "other News Items" which you included. Not! It
was the excellent description of the descent of Keynot Canyon.
I
enjoyed that!
It was as if I were there in person when you threw the
165 foot rope over the 145 foot waterfall, not knowing whether it would reach
bottom or not, whew. I'll bet you breathed a sigh of relief when you saw the
extra rope at the bottom.
I am now actively involved in Desert
Activism. I an part of the San Diego Chapter's effort to secure several
thousand signed cards directed to Hon John Seymour asking his support for the
"good" senate and house bills. Up until Oct 10th I will be sitting at booths at
swap meets in Escondido and San Diego asking people to please sign the cards.
On November 16th I will be leading a hike into the Fish Creek Mtns near
Ocotillo Wells, just off Hwy 78 in Imperial County. It is a Wilderness Study
Area and actually I led an overnight trip there a couple of years ago. I will
welcome the opportunity to get back out there and maybe visit the Elephant Tree
park again.
Please note my address change as reflected in my zip
code.
Happy Trails,

Dear Ron, |
Sept. 2,
1991 |
Reading again
the Desert Sage of Dec/Jan 1991, which John Robinson sent me, I lived over some
very good times Niles & I had in the DPS in the 1940's, 1950's &
196O'a. I decided reading the Desert Sage night be a fair substitute for going
on DPS trips, without putting out all that energy. Here at the Artesia
Christian Hone I'm enjoying sitting down to meals three times a day without
having to cook, clean house, launder, pay utility bills, real estate taxes,
repairs and replacements, Home Owner's Insurance, etc., etc., things I did for
fifty years! I even get a whirlpool bath (under supervision) and get my toe
nails cut! I hope you all and the Desert Sage remain healthy enough to
continue to climb Desert Mountains and write the Desert Sage!
Best
Wishes,
