Mr Ron Jones, Sage Editor 119 No Helen Drive Fullerton. CA 92635 Dear Ron, It was nice hearing from you, and having your reminder about the DPS 50th Anniversary/Annual Banquet. Rosie and I will be there for sure. We will be sitting at Louise Werner's table, and are looking forward to the evening! Below are some reminiscences and musings per your request albeit a bit late. Sorry DPS 1953 We were a vigorous, youngish bunch with many in our enthusiastic twenties!!, out to enjoy some desert or other wilderness spot, nearly every weekend--not a care in the world. In 1953, alone, we climbed four DPS emblem peaks: Boundary Peak, Montgomery Peak, Sentinel Peak, and Keynot Peak and plus probably more DPS trips no longer evident on my faded record-sheet. We developed and honed our desert competence and, better yet, firmed lasting friendships which are active and rewarding to this day. 38 years later. For me and for Rosie, the desert areas and peaks remain today as our top favorites for our still enthusiastic, albeit less frequent hiking and camping excursions. Right now, the desert floor and mountain areas from Owens/Antelope Valley to Organ Pipe Cactus (AZ) National Monument are ablaze with absolutely gorgeous displays of wild flowers--a side benefit of the much delayed rains which favored us so bountifully in March. See you Wednesday, Ron |
Sincerely, Lloyd Balsam |
