| Dear Ron Re the Desert Sage ...items from BRE [Back Road Explorer's newsletter - ed] should be paid ads as they have their own newsletter- Dear Barbara, I printed a Backcountry Equipment List from the BRE Newsletter in the last SAGE as I thought it would be a valuable checklist for DPS drivers when they drive the back-roads to some of our peaks. I see no reason to ask a BRE to pay or to be identified as an ad for this article just as I would not require clippings from other magazines or newspapers to be paid ads. -- editor Scoops du jour should never be. It is tacky, trashy, tribe, trivial & atrocious - Gossip by mouth is bad enough, but on paper! Please spare us this kind of disgrace - Gross |

Dear Readers - I print what I think the DPS membership would like to read. I will print anything in good taste which members send. In my first several issues I am trying to find out what our readers would like. Input by letters or articles of any kind indicates interest & active participation. If our members indicate through comments or lack of input that they do not want a feature I shall cease printing it. Currently the score is about 7 - 1 in favor of "Scoops". Also if the DPS Management Committee directs me to not print articles on a certain topic or to discontinue a feature I shall do so. Never, Never will I knowingly allow an article to be tacky or trashy. I thought that announcing weddings, illnesses, birthdays, social events and humorous asides would be OK. Please let me know, Dear Readers, if you wish this column to be removed, or else send your input to Mary McMannes. Thanks, Barbara, for your concern and I'll try to maintain the standards you set while you were editor. Barbara, How about a column for the SAGE from you as DPS Council Rep so our members who can't attend the Council meetings can learn what goes on in the Angeles Chapter? -- Ed. |
