Advanced Trips
  The Desert Peaks Section will be joining the California BLM over April 27-28-29 on an Earth Day - California Trails Day project in the Inyo Mountains. This trail maintenance/signing activity will help celebrate the 20th anniversary of Earth Day. Participants should be able to comfortably handle a rigorous three day backpack. Commemorative patches, tee shirts and caps may be available to participants. AUG 18-26 SAT-SUN DESERT PEAKS  
I: Charleston Pk (11.918'), Mummy Mtn (11,530'). Toiyabe Dome (11,773'). Ruby Dome (11,387'), Wheeler Pk (13,063'), maybe more: 9 day vacation and carcamp of incredibly scenic Nevada ranges. 2 WD OK. Charleston & Mty: 4,300' gain, 19 mi, rt. Toiyabe Dome: 4,600' gain, 10 mi rt. Ruby Dome: 4800' gain, 8 mi rt. Wheeler Pk: 3,100' gain, 9 mi rt. We will, visit Lee Cyn Nat Forest, Goldfield, Berlin-Icthyosaur St Pk, Austin (old mining camp), Elko, go thru "The Secret Pass" in Ruby Mtns, also see the Lehman Caves in Great Basin Nat Pk, Pioche, Caliente ctr. On nonclimbing days we will experience a few hot springs, interesting eateries and several Basque restaurants & add'l cultural sites. Our FIRST meeting of the new climbing season. Come see what we've got planned for the fall & winter months. Our program will be presented by DR GERRY SHERBA, head of the Desert Studies Consortium at Zzyzx, Soda Lake near Baker who will tell us what's going on out there. Refreshments by LEORA JONES. Meet 7:30 pm at Cal Fed S & L, 270 N Vermont Av at Beverly, LA.
DESERT PROTECTIVE COUNCIL OUTINGS

MAR 24-25: PALEN-MCCOY VALLEY, CHUCK WALLA & OROCOPIA MTS.
Meet Saturday morning in front of Patton Museum at Chiriaco Summit, 28 miles east of Indio at 10:30 am. 4WD preferred but 2WD permitted with clearance and short wheelbase.

APR 13-15: AMARGOSA CANYON, SHOSHONE AREA. KINGSTON RANGE
Meet promptly at 12 noon behind the "Mad Greek" cafe in Baker. 4WD not required. Bring a bath towel for visits to Tecopa Hot Springs. Trip ends Sunday after lunch.
MAY 26-28: DARWIN CANYON, PANAMINT VALLEY, SOUTHERN SIERRA
Meet at 10:30 am in the east end of the parking lot of Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest. 4WD preferred but not required. Afternoons will be spent above 4000'. Monday is optional.
