And Now The Time Has Come

For two weeks I've had one to go
and now the time has come
to put one goal. behind me
for another has begun

When I started the DPS
in the winter of '85
I didn't think I'd finish
with 23 peaks class 3,4,6 Or 5

Yes, I was timid of exposure (I still am, as a matter of fact)
but my good friends coerced and cajoled me
and lead me from the pack

And I had a grand time trying
climbing peaks throughout the West
From Ruby Dome to Big Picacho
It's hard to pick the best

And all, the wonderful campfires
that we'd set ablaze each night
Then we'd cozily sleep in our down sacks
until the early light

Yes, it was often of bitter cold (and lack of sleep)
that we would awake to at the dawn
as we struggled to get ready
before the announcement would come.,"On.On'

Oh, I have such delicious images
of the peaks and the good friends
It is with a touch of sadness
that it will all come to an end

For I have accepted a new job
a job that th fun and new
I'll work Monday through Friday
Yes, I'll work the weekdays through

But I work PM's, 3 to midnight,
and the trailheads are far away
There's no time for sleep, no time at all
Thus the sorrow and dismay

I'll be forced to bag peaks nearby
and complete my San Diego list
So my dear kind friends
I leave you with this Holiday wish

I wish you hope and happiness
throughout the coming year
Many Season's Greeting
Peace on Earth and Good Cheer

Paul Freiman
