HR-780/S-11 will cause the following changes in DPS peak hiking mileage, gain, and time: All current mileage's are roundtrip hiking miles from nearest commonly used 4WD roadhead. Feet of gain include major ups & downs. Future mileage's and feet of gain are based on assumptions detailed below. Times are Naismith's Rule plus 20%: Naismith: D/3 + G/2 = T, where D is distance in miles, G is thousands of feet of gain, and T is time in hours. Total increase in the 21 peaks affected is to add 77 miles, 11,600' gain, or about 38 hours of hiking. Ordered by added time. | ||||||

HR780/S11 CHANGE DETAILS: Peaks are listed in the same order as in the summary above. After each peak there are 3 reference numbers: 1)"DPS" refers to the number on the DPS Peak List. Both 7.5' and 15' USGS topo maps are referenced on that list. 2) "De Lorme" refers to the page number in the "Southern California Atlas & Gazeteer", published by DeLorme Publishing, Freeport, Maine. 3) "Wild" refers to page number in the 120+ page series of 42" by 18" Ozalid process map set issued (by the BLM?) entitled "Wilderness Study Areas". Avawatz Mtn, DPS 3.1, DeLorme p55, Wild p6: Road to Mormon Springs will be closed at the 1000' contour, 2.2 mi in from SR 127.
