A TRAVELERS GUIDE TO THE NATIONAL PARKS AND NATURAL AREAS OF NORTHWESTERN MEXICO by Richard D Fisher. 28pp. Sunracer Publications, 1985, $9.95
A Book Review by Ron Jones

We act the author of this booklet, Richard Fisher, on our last climb of Cerro Pinacate in November, 1984 while he was doing final research in the area for this book. He is a professional photographer and author who has published several articles in recent issues of Arizona Highways magazine and heads up Wilderness Expeditions in Arizona. The book is the size and format of Arizona Highways, contains many superb photographs, a few general maps and is very well printed.

Coverage includes a separate section on the area surrounding two peaks on the DPS list (Cerro Pinacate and Big Picacho) with nice photos of the peaks and approaches and a brief section on the Sierra Juarez and the Parque Constitution de 1857 but with no mention of Pico Risco.

The National Perk surrounding the Barrance de Cobre receives the best coverage in the book with separate sections on Basaseachic National Park containing a 980ft fall and several lesser ones; the old mining area of Batopilas; the mission at Satevo and other points of interest in the Barrancas and Rio Verde area.

Briefer coverage is given to Casas Grandes, Kino Bay and Sen country, and the islands in the Sea of Coztez off Bahia de Los Angeles. I detected a few errors but with its photos and back country coverage it is an interesting but expensive introduction to an area which should become popular in the next decade. --Ron

Dear Joe,

Thanks for the great time!!! I really enjoyed the gang and I wish I could be part of the section. The shirt is beautiful and I shall treasure it--thanks. That was an outstanding hall--the projector and screen was great and sound system was wonderful. Please extend my thanks to all who attended and to those who helped you with the arrangements.

Yours truly,
Le Roy
