Proposed
goa1s for the 1985-86 season and topics of discussion included:
- Advanced emblem; greater
participation, including discussion in the Sage, less frivolous requirements, a
better name
- Expanded Peaks List - no specific
goals, but consideration of expansion and possible deletions because of
restricted access (eg, Maturango, Mexican peaks)
- Expanded Sage - special yearly issue
with membership list, peak list; minutes of management and general meetings to
better inform the membership; possible increase in dues of $1 or $2 to cover
additional mailing costs; possibility of book reviews, letters to editor;
responsibilities of associate editor.
- More New Trip Leaders "wearing out" of
many current leaders; incipient list- finishers who may as a result lead fewer
trips in the future; need to encourage more members to become leaders; whether
the LTC format discourages people from becoming leaders; alternatives for
training leaders
Other Topics of Discussion and
points discussed were:
- Time & place of future Management
Committee meetings - 7:00 to 9:00 pm. meetings on Monday prior to the General
meeting if the agenda warranted a full meeting, & 7:00 pm to 7:30 on
Wednesday prior to the general meeting if not; Monday evening meetings at Jay's
house as most centrally located, otherwise at DWP or the Griffith Park Ranger
station. Need for a map and directions to the Ranger Station to be published in
the Sage , if general meetings will be there.
- January 1986 DPS meeting date will
fall on New Year's Day - possibility of canceling, or holding New Year's Eve
party & peak climb
- 1986 Banquet - possible speakers;
possible change of location(eg Taix;) ask for vote at next general
meeting
- Informational package for new
members
- Future accessibility of
Maturango
- Qualifications of leaders -
suggestions that qualified old hands go on trips led by leaders of questionable
qualifications(eg) level of responsibility) to assess their
capabilities
- Advertisements in the Sage -
individuals selling personal equipment individuals selling commercial
products.
- Advisory Committee on the Peak List -
list finishers, other qualified o1d hands to advise on peak additions and
deletions.
As this was an informal meeting ,
no actions were taken. The meeting adjourned around 10:00 pm. Jay served a
tasty chocolate ripple cake and wine.
