(unapproved) of the DPS Banquet May 1,1985 at Luminarias Restaurant The banquet was called to order at 8:30 by Chuck Stein. Comments included recognition of Randy Bernard for his excellent job in selling the new DPS t-shirts, Ron Jones for his work in process on the DPS Peak Guide, Betty McCosker for her lovely table decorations, Edna Erspamer for her serigraphs (available for sale) and Chuck announced he would be in Washington D.C. for a year to work on the space station. Chuck introduced Mike Manchester, who, with Julie Bernard's able assistance, was M.C. for the raffle and drawing for door prizes. The door prizes, the generous donors, and the lucky winners were: |

Mountaineering
Committee: Bill Bradley, Gordon MacLeod, Gene Olsen Maris announced that his four primary goals for the coming year are: - a new emblem (the vote was close so we'll try again) - an expanded peaks list (please submit suggestions to the mountaineering committee) - an expanded Sage (book reviews, restaurant reviews, other features) - more new leaders and new members in the section (need to encourage people) It was announced that on September 21, Duane McRuer and Norm Rohn will finish the list (on the McCoskers' 40th wedding anniversary); all are invited to the celebration. Following a brief break, Maris introduced LeRoy Johnson, forest geneticist with the USFS, who gave a fascinating slide presentation on "Death Valley: The Manly/Rogers Trail," tracing one group of '49ers on their way through Death Valley to L.A. The slides were particularly fascinating as they featured desert terrain and landmarks (including Campy) familiar to many of us. Special "Thank Yous" to Betty Wallin, who made the impressive programs for the banquet; to Betty McCosker for her lovely home-grown roses as table decorations, and to Edna Erspamer, who donated 10% of the sales of her serigraphs to the DPS. Respectfully submitted: Sherry Harsh |
