Five Years Ago in the DPS
New emblem holders during the period May to July, 1980 included Mary McMannes on Charleston, Jack Koshear on Argus and Cal French on Inyo. Bob Greenawalt led a group of 7 on a 20 mile backpack from Birch Spring on the side of Telescope Peak along the 8" riveted waterline running to the ghost town of Skidoo. Marlin Clark and I led Providence and Mitchell and also Paiute Monument and New York Butte. The Third Annual Argus BBQ was held in Crow Canyon with 30 bibulous gastronomes. Sherry Harsh won poet... honors for 'The Ballad of the Desert BBQ'. Jack Koshear earned his emblem on Argus Pk. Zinc Hill. 5584'. near Darwin was climbed Sunday followed by delightful sun bathing at Darwin Falls.

Ten Years Ago
There were 4 new list finishers this period in 1975: Barbara Reber on Ruby Dome, Lou and Bernie Petitjean on Mt Dubois and Jon Petitjean the next weekend on Montgomery. These were completions #15-18. Phil Bruce became emblem holder #333 on Telescope along with Dave Hammond on the same peak and Lou Cavalieri on Inyo. New members included Bob Emerick, Jim Fleming, Doug Mantle, Mary Sue Miller, Dave Perkins and Bob Thompson. Trips included Henry Heusinkveld leading 10 on Waucoba, Pleasant and Nelson; George Hubbard and Paul Lipsohn with 20 to Tin and Dry and Roy Ward with Duane McRuer leading 30 to Nopah and Pahrump.

Twenty Years Ago
Gordon McLeod climbed Dubois to become list finisher #3. Dave and Don Cubberly, Bob and Jim Van Allen, Janice Schull and Vic Miller earned emblems, the latter 4 on Montgomery. New members included Bob Michael, George Barnes and John Thornton. The DPS had 94 active members, 62 emblem holders and one honorary member, Dan Thrapp. Arky Erb led 8 to Charleston and Mummy in deep snow in June. Jess Logan and Neko Colevins had 45 on their Grand Canyon traverse. Fred Jensen had no participants on his May lead of Hayford and Stirling. Graham Stevenson (2nd time), Eric Schumacher, McLeod & Colevins climbed Telescope from Shortys Well.

Ron Bartell, who has been serving DPS (and SPS) for many years by keeping the membership/mailing roster, would like to retire from this job. He deserves the rest, and we can not thank him enough for his help.
