1984-85 Executive Committee Election Statement of BARBARA REBER

As a long time member of the Angeles Chapter and Orange County resident, I feel I could adequately represent the members of the Angeles Chapter on the Executive Committee.
I have served the Desert Peaks Section as Secretary/Treasurer, Council Representative, Conservation Representative, Sage Editor and Chairperson. I have served the Sierra Peaks Section as Program Chair and Conservation Representative. I have served the Sierra Club Council as Secretary. I am an I rated leader for the Desert Peaks Section, Hundred Peaks Section and Sierra Peaks Section.
I have eleven years experience working within the political structure of the Angeles Chapter, therefore I feel I understand the problems and priorities of our Chapter. I also feel the Activities Sections, Groups and Committees need equal and adequate representation on the Ex Comm.
I urge you all to vote for me in the 1983 election.

Five Years Ago in the DPS
As usual there was not much activity in the DPS during this late summer-fall period. The Desert Sage for Aug-Oct 1978 listed Jim Erb as becoming the 29th DPS list finisher and Bill T Russell number 30 on Nelson Mtn 9/24. Bill T had earned his SPS Senior Emb1em on Muah the day before. New emblem holders included Jim Cervenka and Ted Pinson on Montgomery, George Smith on Inyo, Anna Lou Pinson and Pat Lavengood on Charleston and Dale Van Dalsem on Montgomery--all from the '77-'78 climbing season. Gordon MacLeod and Andy Smatko scheduled Desert Hound/Jubilee/Schwaub and Echo on a late October exploratory.

Ten Years Ago
Paul Lipsohn, George Hubbard and Roy Ward led a group of 16 on a three day October climb of South Guardian Angel. At the same time Ed Treacy led a party of 6 on a two day climb of the same peaks. Fred Bode became the most senior DPS list finisher at "seventy some" years on the summit. The DPS Newsletter (the name SAGE hadn't been coined yet) reported Barbara Reber earning her emblem on Charleston and Howard Rogers, Alice Hawkins, Earl Kessler, Luella Martin, Ann Wianecki and Ed Treacy earning emblems on peaks unlisted. New members included Jim Erb, Cuno Ranschau, Bob Cates, Cal and Louise French. Fracisco and Roy Ward led a 4WD climb of New York Butte and a climb of Inyo over Labor Day. Beth Henry and Campy led Argus, Maturango and Burl Parkinson. Dick Akawie led twelve on a climb of Hayford and Stirling. Fran Smith led a death march backpack climb-2 days-across Dubois, Montgomery and Boundary.

Twenty Years Ago
John Robinson led a group of 21 on a climb of Toiyabe Dome from the south fork of Twin River on the east. Andy Smatko on his fifth attempt of the peak reached the summit on 9/2/63 to become the first DPS list finisher. Bob Bear and Trudy Hunt led 13 on an exploratory of Fountain Pk near Mitchell Caverns. New members from the previous season included Ellen Ossofsky (Siegal) and Ron Jones.
