The Desert Sage
THE CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

"That time of year thou may'st in me behold" when desert peaks replace Sierra peaks as reasons for getting out of the house on weekends.
It is also time for such tasks as writing "The Chairman's Corner," In my normal fashion, I delegated. the responsibility for writing this to my wife. After all, she is a writer-a philatelic columnist-and she can type. Unfortunately, her first effort, "Stamping Around the Desert," covered precancels issued by U. S. post offices in areas over 5,000 feet above sea-level and having an annual precipitation of less than 16 inches. It just didn't seem to be what the average desert peak bagger would like to read as he climbs Kofa.*
A second effort, "How to Divorce a Desert Peak Bagger," didn't seem much better, so I'm faced with doing the work myself, Here goes:
The desert management committee has been busy all summer. Chuck Stein has put together an excellent group of climbs for the next schedule. (Gene Olson is leading another one of his fabulous Thanksgiving trips-this time to the Superstitions).
Betty McCosker has put together a set of programs for the coming year that are exceptionally interesting. Mary Sue Miller has attended Council Meetings, Edna Erspamer handled our finances, (She reports that we have more money than we owe--an enviable position:) Jack Koshear had taken the minutes, etc., and I have delegated lots of work to my wife.
In the coming year we will possibly get to vote on the by-laws changes that were due last year and will probably vote on some desert peak additions to/subtractions from the list. (At present Saline Peak is not one of those being discussed.).
'Til the next issue, stay disorganized.
