A visit to Casas Grandes Ruins, Chihuahua, Mexico and exploration of roadheads to the peaks of the Sierra Madre Occidental, which lie along the border between Chihuahua and Sonora, Mexico. Carpooling, we go to Douglas, Arizona; cross border at Agua Prieta, Sonora and continue on partially paved extension of Mexico 2 as far as possible, then on graded road to Janos, Chihuahua. There we take paved Mexico 10 to Nuevo Cases Grandes and side trip to Cases Grandes Ruins, which contain the northernmost known pyramids. We will then explore roadheads to the peaks of the Sierra Madre Occidental. In the event that the road to Janos cannot be traversed, we will take the road paved in 1978 from Agua Prieta south to Moctezuma, Sonora and explore roadheads on the west side of the Sierra Madre Occidental.
