The Desert Sage
CHAIRMAN'S CORNER BARBARA REBER

The 1980-1981 season for the DPS has been terminated by a successful banquet. Our speaker, Remi Nadeau, had a wealth of pictures and tales regarding Western Ghost Towns. Our artist in residence, Betty McCosker, had a number of fine desert paintings for our viewing.
I have enjoyed working with the Management Committee of Doug Mantle, Vice-Chairman; Vi Grasso, Sec-Treas; Ron Bartell, Council Rep; and Fran Smith, Program Chairman. Thanks to their help and the help of the members my job was made easier. The attendance at the meetings this year was outstanding. We will continue to meet at DWP and hope the attendance improves even more.
All of you aspiring LTC-ALTC types please consider the DPS as a sign off area. The DPS has some peaks that are a challenge to the mountaineering skills of any leader. We encourage new leaders, new participants and new trips to the section. Don't be discouraged by distance or dirt roads, the rewards of the desert far outshine the hazards.
I would like to thank everyone who has submitted write-ups, jokes, articles and input for the Desert Sage. All the editors of section newsletters are dependant upon input from the members for an adequate and successful publication.
All in all it has been a great year. He can now welcome a new Management Committee ably headed by Vi Grasso.
