There are a couple of mighty lucky fellows who persuaded members Peggy Cullens and Eleanor Ruth to TREAD THE PRIMROSE PATH with them recently. Peggy became Mrs. Capt. Harry McLean on July 19th in Vancouver, B.C. She'll be enjoying free trips on the inland passage to Alaska as long as the season lasts. Then during the off season we hope to see her and Harry down here for a while. Most of us know Eleanor Ruth's husband, Don Kelly, because he is an old-timer in the Southern Chapter whose company we have enjoyed on many a DPS trip. Our best wishes to all four newlyweds.

PERSONALS - MARIE AND ELEANOR (Smith, of course) are moving to Temple City, 5764 No. Loma Ave., in mid-August. We trust the lack of a phone number will soon be corrected. Marie is full of enthusiasm following her return from the High Trip recently. THE DEANS have recently moved to 1052 E. 8th St., Upland, Calif., with phone number - Upland 315167. Marion and Willard are taking a week of their vacation now scouting out some new country in Nevada. ALDEN HILTON has a new job working for the State of California, testing municipal water supplies, I believe. Because he is stationed only temporarily in Sacramento he still uses his LA address, where his mother holds down the fort. BILL JOHNSON was killed recently near Rock Springs, Wyo. when struck by a car on the highway. He had stopped to take a picture. It must have been such a beauty that it took Bill's mind off mundane matters like pedestrian caution. There are a lot of nice things that flood my mind concerning Bill. I'm sure all of you who knew him join in sending heart-felt sympathy to his family.

It seems not at all inappropriate to bring up a subject which relates to us Desert Peakers in our larger sphere as members of the S. C. Chapter; the CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM AT HARWOOD LODGE. Regardless of how much or little each of us uses Harwood, I think we should all want to help see the construction through to an early conclusion. After all, Harwood is the principal lodge owned by the Chapter and it is an invaluable asset as a place to hold parties, enjoy a comfortable week-end in the mountains and impress prospective members. So let's each set aside at least one work party which is a "must" on his calendar.

How are your 1951 VACATION PLANS working out? Bay Area member, Joe Wamp1er, has sent some literature on a series of trips to Havasu Canyon he is leading around Oct. 1st, which some of you might be interested in. We all know how enthusiastic everyone has been following trips to Havasu and most of us have heard well of the various trail trips Joe Wampler has led in the high Sierras. These trips are eight days long and cost $115. Write J. W. at 1940 Hearst Ave., Berkeley 9, if you are interested.

It's SCHEDULE TIME once again. This time we are planning trips for the fall schedule from Oct. 1 through January 31 of next year. If you have any brilliant ideas on the subject, I'm sure that our Schedule Chairman, Toni Gamero, will be more than glad to hear them. Conversely, should he call upon you to help lead a trip, I'm sure each of you will stretch things a long way to help the cause.
See you on those two Sierra trips coming up shortly:
Mt. Mallory on August 4-5
Mt. Russell on Sept. 1-3
