The Desert Sage

CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

Hope you made it to the DPS banquet May 17: If so you saw an exciting slide show by John Cox and Alan Ehrgott, who walked the length of Baja California, And you saw Walt Wheelock, who donated two of his books for the banquet, come up with the lucky number in the drawing and win them back. Also, four five-gallon canteens were donated, and Mary Risely had the lucky numbers to win three of them (she graciously refused the third one). New officers installed at the banquet included:

     Vice-chairman: John Hellman
     Secretary-Treasurer: Mike Manchester
     Council representative: Ron Fracisco
     Program chairman: Phil Bruce
     Conservation chairman: Howard Stephens
     Mountaineering committee:
         John Hellman, chairman
         Barbara Reber
         George Hubbard
     Editor Desert Sage: Barbara Reber

The HPS now holds its monthly meetings at the Department of Water and Power Bui1ding, 111 N. Hope Street, in the Los Angeles Civic Center, across the street from the Music Center. The DPS will hold its monthly meetings there starting in July. Advantages of the Water and Power Building are said to be cushioned seats, air conditioning, guarded free parking, and cafeteria dinner service available at moderate prices. Do Desert Peakers want to go soft and enjoy the comforts of the Water and Power Building or would you prefer to continue meeting at the Youth Services Center? Or somewhere else? If you have any comments or suggestions please send them to Phil Bruce, Program Chairman.

Happy Sierra Peak climbing. See you in the desert next fall.
