FROM THE OUTGOING HONCHO

Peeps from the Peak -- Fran Smith

Time for the last peeps from the Peak. Our new Chairman, Les Stockton, will be in touch with you from a peak, a corner, or some as yet unknown location. His reputation precedes him, so a prediction -- success for Les and his crew of Paul, Ed, Howard, and Jerry.

Now to wind up the past year:

Meetings - Excellent attendance; more involvement; good programs

Outings - Healthy activity; questionable interest in slow paced climbs.

Conservation - Good help from Ben; the word was spread; up to the members to carry it on.

By-Laws - Updated and much improved; several revisions await discussion.

Management Committee - An active committee; many thanks to Les, Jon, Paul and Ed.

Successful Year? - Up to you, the membership, to decide.

Your Past Chairman - Three years of DPS committee service; It has been a pleasure to serve you; now back to being a member only.

FROM THE INCOMING HONCHO

Chairman's Report -- Les Stockton

1. The warm weather is over (sooon) and we will be back to desert peaking. I made a couple of forays into the desert in June and July but (except for Kofa where it was green and butterflyey) the excessive heat this year postpones the enjoyment, experienced in the autumn months. We are preparing a rather full schedule for your participation, both for the beginner and the completing-the-lister. The Sierra is claiming our veterans and neophytes at present, and rightly so, although the light snow will lengthen the Sierra season.

2. I promised some changes at the banquet and a primary aim was to increase our treasury which is running slightly over $100 This does not allow for basics - we need first aid kits, etc., so beginning with your renewa1, the new management committee has voted to increase the subscription rate to $2. Your zealous editor has been publishing and mailing the newsletter as a one man operation at minimal expense. I am trying to get John to publish the Vitz sayings, so appreciated in the HPS Lookout, but John claims that I make most of them up. This is not true. I'll be submitting them to him anyway. Thanks, John, we appreciate your humor and editorial efforts immensely.

3. Your current schedule lists your new management committee, but for the record and posterity: Vice Chairman (Schedule), Paul Lipsohn; Secretary Treasurer, Ed Treacy, Programs, Howard Stephens; Liaison, Jerry Haven; Newsletter, John Vitz; Conservation, Ben Romero.
