MARCH-APRIL 1972 NUMBER 111

Peeps from the Peak -- Fran Smith

The March DPS meeting was a chairman's nightmare, but thanks to cooperation from committeemen and membership, the evening ended at 10 PM with routine business handled, a new Management Committue elected, bylaw revisions passed with five exceptions, slide programs, refreshments, and even a short social hour. Wow! Your chairman appreciates the fact that nine members accepted their nomination for the Management Committee. It has been four years since the membership has really elected their committee. Any five of the nine would have been a good committee, and the elected five are named elsewhere in this news1etter. My best wishes for their success in the coming year.

Starting next season, DPS will have seven monthly meetings - April the new month. There were suggestions of increasing the number to eight. Several additional revision amendments are likely In the coming year - maybe the number of meetings should be changed to eight per year???

Two appointments have been made by your chairman. Bill Banks has been named to the Mountaineering Committee for the remainder of this season and next year. The incoming chairman will appoint a second member to the committee for two years. These two p1us the Vice-chairman will be the Mountaineering Committee for next season. Anyone wanting to suggest a peak for adding to, or removing from the DPS list should channel their thinking through this committee.

The second appointment is Steve Smith (his request) to research the past records of DPS (Newsletters) and formulate as accurately as possible a numerical list in chronological order of the DPS EMBLEM holders. This is the method already in use by the Hundred Peaks Section. Speaking of my son Steve, your chairman and Steve plan on leading climbs of DPS peaks Pyramid and Smith the weekend of April 15-16. It is the sixth and last of the series of slow paced climbs initiated this season. Contact leader for details, since this outing is not in the schedule. Minimum of eight or maximum of twenty for the trip to go.
