DPS peak list reached 73. Paul Nelson led 27 up Mt. Inyo. Roger Mitchell led 4-wheel drive along Inyo crest, New York Butte to Pleasant Mtn. Tres Palomas in San Pedro Martir climbed by 16, led by John Robinson and Bill Clifton.
With 1969, the Desert Peaks Section enters its 24th consecutive season of desert climbing. As Parker Severson wrote in the Desert Peaks Guide: "A great deal of valuable experience has been gained in the ways of the desert, and how to live with it under various conditions. Along with this has grown a greater understanding of and appreciation for the things the desert has to offer as a wilderness recreation land. It is for this reason that the Desert Peaks Section actively lends its support to measures and ideas designed to protect and preserve the unique wilderness character of certain portions of our remaining unspoiled deserts."
