| WELL-DIGGERS AND DOWSERS | July 14, 1983 |
30 DPSers met at the Harry Wade exit plaque on Highway 127 armed with shovels. Mary Sue Miller brought her dowsing rod. A surge of activity by the DPS resulted in the flooding of Highway 127, blocking the road from Shoshone to Baker. Beseiged by hostile Sishone Indians wanting to get to Baker for the Saturday night festivities, our party was forced to ferry them across with their cars as Mary Sue tried in vain to turn off the flood with her dowsing rod. Bob Hicks, Leader and Safety Committee Chairman, said that in the future Mary Sue will not be allowed on DPS trips unless she leaves her dowsing rod at home. |

| DAVIS, KOSHEAR SET NEW RECORDS | May 15, 1987 |
Sid "San Jac" Davis reached the top of San Jacinto Peak for his 999th climb of that peak. Sid made his ascent via the steep Snow Creek route in his motorized wheel chair which had been custom fitted with snow chains, double ice axe holder, and parachute. Sid had hoped that this feat would make the Guinness Book of Records but unfortunately he was eclipsed on the same day by Jack Koshear who completed his 1,000th climb of Mt. Hollywood in Griffith Park. |

| PETROGLYPH RESTORATION TRIP | April 30, 1936 |
29 DPSers, armed with hammers and chisels, showed up for the First Annual Petroglyph Restoration Trip at China Lake Naval Weapons Station. Co-sponsored by the DPS and the Angeles Chapter Conservation Committee and led by Fred and Ski Camphausen, the group received a commendation from the Base Commander for their outstanding work. Since the U.S. and the U.S.S.R have negotiated a peace treaty, business at China Lake has fallen off badly and the Base Commander said that the only way they can keep it open is to build up more tourist trade. When the petroglyphs are fully restored they should become a major tourist attraction. The Base Commander judged that the best petroglyph restoration was made by Edna Worsthammer. It was a 60 foot high representation of an Indian jumping off of Weaver's Needle. Most inspirational petroglyph restoration, a young Indian maiden working on her Apple Computer, was made by Betty Crocker. |

| MANTLE DOES IT AGAIN | April 30, 1990 |
Doug Mantle finished all three lists for the fifteenth time yesterday. He also tied Cuno's record of' completing three lists in one day, doing T-Bolt in the morning, Big Iron in the afternoon, and finishing on Picacho del Diablo at 11:145 p.m. As usual, Doug did the peaks in his company-owned helicopter. Since his promotion to partner last month Doug was entitled to the large size helicopter and he brought with him all of the trip participants except the assistant leader, E.T., who arrived in the usual way. |
