Twenty one explorers climbed Black Butte, 4490' Elevation, highest peak in the Chuckawalla Mountains. The view from the summit was exceptional, though the trip to and from it was not. Twelve others climbed Pilot Peak, second highest peak in the same range. The view from the summit was also very fine, and the climb to it would no doubt make a more interesting trip. The hike began at 4 A.M. and a high ridge was reached for one of those never-to-be-forgotten sun rises.
