THE CHAIRMAN'S
CORNER - Abe Siemens "The authority of the leader is to be recognized," according to the rules of conduct stated on page 26 of the current Angles Chapter Schedule. Although all of us want competent leadership on DPS outings, some participants forget that no leader can do his best when parties disregard his instructions. The leader's task, which is difficult at best, becomes impossible under such conditions. One of our recent outings, which was marred by a fatality, reminds us that problems can arise on DPS trips. Obeying the leader, which is one of the most elementary rules necessary for the safety and well-being of the group and its members, is indeed a cheap price to pay for the advantages of trip participation. Those unwilling to pay this price should not seek climbing companionship on DPS outings. Leaders would do well to remind participants of the rules of conduct at the beginning of each event. Participants who create discipline problems should be reported to the DPS Management Committee. Your Committee strives to sponsor trips which are both safe and enjoyable. Toward this end, we are vitally interested in supporting our leaders by creating an environment in which they can do their best. NEW MEMBERS- The ranks of the DPS are swelling with the recent admission of these new members: |
