Business-
As a result of the: Telescope Peak Hike as one of the scheduled events of the 1966 Death Valley Encampment, the Desert Peeks Section has again agreed to lead the event for the 1967 Encampment. This Veteran's Day weekend grand desert event is sponsored by the Death Valley 49ers, Inc. The group is interested in perpetuating interest in the Death Valley region and our Section is honored to accept the invitation. We will need three qualified leaders for the jaunt. If interested in being one of the organizers, contact new Vice-Chairman Thornton.

We extend sympathy to DPS Member Wallace Henry of Palmdale, upon the Feb 10th passing of his wife, Flora.

Baja Search-Bep Bingham "ELEANOR DART & OGDEN KELLOGG, JR MISSING"
So read the headlines in a mid-February local newspaper.
On Feb 23, ten days after the two students were supposed to have returned to their classes at local colleges, a large scale search for the two was organized. Members of the Sierra Club, the Sierra Madre and China Lake Rescue Teams met in Mexicali and were briefed on the problem by the American Consul and Ogden Kellogg, Sr.
Late in the afternoon a caravan proceeded over the salt flats to the base of San Pedro Martir. Other Sierra Club members were on their way to Meling Ranch, on the west side of the range.
Bud Bernhard from the San Diego Chapter was already in the area, checking footprints that had been found on the desert floor, in Canyon del Diablo, and in Providencia Canyon.
Bud Bingham was flown from Mexicali to the mountain to point out the major routes. It proved impossible for thorough searching by air.
One of the many puzzles was that in Canyon del Diablo, as well as in Providencia Canyon, footprints were discovered, supposedly of the lost couple, that went both uphill and downhill.
John Thornton suggested that we try smaller Diablito Canyon, as novice hikers might be prone to take this more obvious access as Canyon Diablo.
