DPS Newsletter

From the NEW CHAIRMAN- Bud Bingham
What's in store for the DPS during the busiest season?
First I must mention that the past Management Committee under the leadership of Gene Gail held the season's activities to the highest quality. We are in luck again, as Bob Greenawalt has consented to act as editor of the newsletter for the coming year.
Now comes the planing of the busiest part of the DPS year, Nov. thru Feb. We are interested in repeats of some trips, but most of all new ideas for trips. The deadline for tentative events will be in early July.
Already proposed is a four-day weekend in Arizona over New Years, the specific activity yet to be determined. Toro Peak-Clark Lake via the old Santa Rosa Indian ruins and Rockhouse canyon sounds like a good traverse. I'm happy about the Telescope Pk climb. Eagle Mtn & Pyramid Pk. in the same weekend would work well, ending the workout in the warm-water pool at Shoshone. Maybe Van Winkle Mtn at the very south end of the Providence Range can have its very first scheduling. Also Big Picacho in Baja over Thanksgiving with leaders who know their way to the summit sounds inviting.
This is only a starter, and we want to hear from the DPS membership about events they would like to have led. Please contact Frede Jensen or myself on this matter as soon as possible!
Your ideas may range from next to impossible to the easiest type weekend.

Telescope O. K. Approval has been granted by the Directors of the Death Valley '49ers that our DPS lead a Telescope Peak hike as one of the official events of the 17th Annual Death Valley Encampment during Nov. 10-13, 1966. If this jaunt proves successful, it may be an annual affair to the Valley's loftiest summit. Our hike will take place on Saturday, and should attract many enthusiasts. It will be the fist important hike to be included in the DVE activities.
