Edmiston, secretary of the committee, requests nature lovers to support this worthy project both financially and personally. For Desert Peaks, so intimately acquainted with Owens Valley, this merits support. Those interested in supporting the organization should write to the address below:

According to leader Bob Greenawalt, there are still openings available for the Hi-Lo Panamint traverse Bus trip. This should be one of the most spectacular adventures yet engaged in by the DPS, so any of you still wishing to attend get those checks ($11.50) in to Bob soon. Speaking of spectacular trips, we are going to try to schedule another one next fall. Cerro de la Encantada (alias Pichacho del Diablo) is in the cards for the 4 day Thanksgiving weekend if we are able to find qualified leaders.

Several persons have suggested the possible merging of the DPS Newsletter with the SPS Echo. Pointing to the close cooperation between the Rock Climbers and the Ski Mountaineers in publishing Mugulnoos, they see no reason why it can't be done successfully by our section and the SPS, two groups with heavily overlapping memberships. This proposal will be brought up at the DPS meeting May 23rd, so I hope many of you will mull it over and come up with some viewpoints on the matter.

I hope to see many of you at or next meeting - Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., May 23rd at club headquarters in Los Angeles. Besides the issue mentioned in the above paragraph, we will be planning an outstanding (we hope) fall schedule highlighted by the big one in Baja.
Congratulations to our first new member of the year - Charles Eugene Gail. Charles climbed his sixth qualifying peak on the Nelson-Coso trip last month.

DO NOT BE AFRAID: It will not be too hot on the May 19-20 DPS trip to the Sheep Range in Nevada. The road ends at a high elevation (7900') and we plan to camp there if the road is passable that far. A new map (Hayford Pk.) has just been published and Hayford Peak has "grown" from 9730' to a highly respectable 9912', while Sheep Peak is up to 9750'. The campfire program should be of considerable interest, having as a speaker a scientist from the research station of this largest game refuse in the USA.
