of footing though the Sky Pilot may have spent a decade establishing its place there. Who climbed Dana a million years ago? It was there then. The first recorded ascent was in 186O. How many have climbed it since? How many have conquered? Is its rocky head bowed in submission? The latest survey of altitude showed this mountain to he three feet higher than fifty years ago. A marmot is frequently seen there, calmly picking up bits after the climbers' lunches. But he hasn't signed the register yet.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS of interest to Desert Peakers

Newest member of the section is Arkel Erb of Los Angeles. Arky is another Frede Jensen; Released from the army last summer, he has climbed 88 peaks since November 1st.

Chuck and Mary Miller, formerly active DPSers now in the Mother Lode Chapter, are the proud parents of Suzanne Jean, born February 16th..

Trudie Hunt spent her Spring Vacation boating in Glen Canyon.

Marie Smith Graser, active DPSer in the early '50s, is busy organizing an Orange County Group of Sierra Clubbers.

Another old-time DPSer (in experience, not in age), Warren Flock is working with the Geophysical institute at the University of Alaska.

Active Andy Smatko has climbed 51 of the 52 DPS qualifying peaks. He'll ascend Arc Dome sometime this year to have them all.

Telescope Peak (11,049') ranks number one in DPS scheduling. It has been scheduled 10 times since 1942. Now York Butte (10,668') ranks second with 9 scheduling since 1941. Waucoba Mm, (11,123') is in third place with 8 since 1945. Nopah Pk. (6,394') Is the only qualifying peak never scheduled by the section.
