But the battle goes on. Riverside County officials defied the National Park Service and have bulldozed a two lane road within the Joshua Tree National Monument. The county bulldozers have uprooted a number of Joshua Trees and left them lying beside the invaded road inside the Monument Boundary. The county supervisors seem to think on the same plane as the rancher who started to bulldoze off a part of Anza-Borrego State Park. He thought that once he denuded the land the park would not want it any more. The scar he mode is visible and will be visible for more than a generation.
