| DPS SUMMER
TRIPS The Mt. Tyndall trip in the High Sierra on August 13-14, led by John Delmonte, proved to be an all stag trip. After a long hot climb over Shepherd Pass, the party of 12 made the summit by a route from the N. E. The Toiyabe (Arc) Dome trip in Nevada was cancelled by the leaders. Apparently the unseasonable heat and the distance caused a lack of interest. It is, however, a very beautiful hiking and climbing area, and well worth a visit. Perhaps we can reschedule this trip at a later date. WANTED: BACK COPIES OF DPS NEWSLETTERS The bound file of DPS NEWSLETTERS is missing from the Angeles Chapter library. If you have a complete file of NEWSLETTERS you wish to donate, please send them to the Library Committee or to me. Also, we need some issues to complete the DPS master file. If you can spare issues #9, #17 and page 2 of #24 (Jan. 7, 1953), please send them to me. PROSPECTIVE MEMBER Jerry and Flora Zagorites have another little daughter, born July 31st. DPS NOTES John and Janet Delmonte leave September 14th for Europe. They plan to spend three or four weeks in Germany and Switzerland. Freda Walbrecht was featured in an article by Dewey Linze in the L. A. Times, August 21st, describing a trip down the Colorado River. Your Chairman attended the 24th annual convention of the Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs at Idyllwild, in the San Jacinto Mountains, over Labor Day, and presented a color slide program showing DPS trips. The Convention was a big success in spite of the hot weather, and drew an attendance of 236 people. |
